Keeping in Touch
Keeping in touch with real estate client's is nessarsary in today’s real estate market and being informed as to the market conditions is important to stay visible to the agent in today’s market.
E-mails , fliers , signs , websites and prospect calling gets more eyes on their marketing and advertising technology. Sellers need to understand the data that’s out there-from the absorption rate to the average sales prices of REOs compared to owner-properties. Getting properties priced properly is nessarsary, and I spend a lot of time sharing data with the consumers to help them place the property on the market to sell.
Keeping consumers in your marketplace educated about today’s buying opportunities.I have done a lot with the [first-time home buyer] tax credit,pre-quailfication information , determine your house needs , area consideration ,and the lower market values today is a good time to buy .
Wilmington ,NC area real estate market is picking up.I have a lot of consumers interested and eager sellers to unload their properties.

Where are ... Beaches that welcome my dog?
If you're moving to the Wilmington Area and have pets, you may be interested to know where you can take your dog for some fun in the sun. In addition to the local dog park, beaches are a common destination for pet owners. Recently someone on MyReporter.com asked about dog-friendly beaches.

What is ... The fountain in the middle of Market Street?
Anyone who visits Wilmington's Historical Downtown is sure not to miss the large beautiful water fountain. It is, after all, sitting in the MIDDLE of Market St. I've heard numerous rumors about the fountain, including that it was part of the Bellamy Mansion before the development of Market St. The true story behind the fountain is very interesting.

The Kenan Fountain sits in the center of Market Street at Fifth Avenue, in what is officially known as Kenan Plaza. It was a gift to the city from native William Rand Kenan Jr. (1872-1965) in memory of his parents William Rand “Buck” Kenan, a Confederate veteran, and Mary Hargrove Kenan.

Why do they ... Call it Rocky Point?
Ben Steelman
StarNews
Because early explorers found unusual rock croppings in this particular corner of southern Pender County, in the midst of otherwise flat country. Historian William S. Powell, in his North Carolina Gazetteer, dates it from William Hilton’s expedition from Barbados in the 1660s, so the name goes back awhile.

What is ... The oldest house in Wilmington?
Wilmington, NC, has a rich history. So, it seems logical to ask...
What is ... The oldest house in Wilmington?
Ben Steelman
StarNews
That’s a tough question, in part because a lot of the city’s oldest buildings aren’t being used as residences anymore.
While Wilmington is a comparatively old city (for North Carolina, at least), surprisingly few buildings survive from the 1700s. Most of the early structures were wood, and firefighting technology was fairly primitive, so a number of fires in the late 1700s and early 1800s destroyed much of Wilmington’s earlier heritage.

Google Takes Widgets to a New Level
The following article isn't directly related to Wilmington, but I thought some of our tech enthusiasts/homeowners would find it interesting that Google is expanding its widgets into energy monitoring. I'm sure many people would be excited to use such a service.

San Diego Gas and Electric Partners With Google PowerMeter
San Diego Gas & Electric is one of the first utilities to sign up with Google and its new Google PowerMeter energy monitoring project, Google said this morning. Google, which is in the midst of creating widgets for allowing consumers to see and monitor their power consumption, said that SDG&E is one of eight initial utility partners launching with the Internet giant. The partnership will allow San Diego Gas & Electric customers with smart meters to access that smart meter information via Google and its PowerMeter widget software. Google said that its widgets are only available to a limited group of partners, but will roll out more widely later this year with other partners. posted on Wednesday, May 20, 2009

Why do they ... Pronounce Kerr Avenue like “car”?
After seeing this article on StarNews Online, I had to share it.
Why do they ... Pronounce Kerr Avenue like “car”?
This can be confusing to people, especially visitors and new residents. So, what is the answer?
Ben Steelman
StarNews
Hard to say. The Wilmington thoroughfare is named for James T. Kerr, a Confederate veteran who was a prominent New Hanover County truck farmer in the late 1800s. (Some of Kerr Avenue apparently runs through, or over, some of his former fields.)

Wilmington Film News!
This is sure to increase the number of movies and television shows shot in Wilmington:
Massive Film Stage Set to Open in Wilmington
EUE/Screen Gems Studios built it. Now, all the producers have to do is come.
The Wilmington filmmaking facility will show off its newly completed “Dream Stage 10” at noon Monday to local media. A few details still need to be completed, such as electricity hook up and the final building inspection. But by the end of this week the sound stage’s massive airplane hangar doors should be open for business.

Housing Bottom
Housing Bottom Is Near
The bottom of the housing decline is near, predicted analysts and home builders attending the National Association of Home Builders' semiannual Construction Forecast Conference last week. Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody's Economy.com, facetiously picked a date when home prices would stop falling: Dec. 15, 2009. Other observers weren't so precise, but they did generally agree that the federal government's efforts to shore up the market would take effect by the end of 2009 or early in 2010. Analysts also predicted that consumers will spend less on remodeling. Eric Belsky, executive director at Harvard University's Joint Center for Housing Studies, predicted that spending on remodeling would fall 12.3 percent by the end of this year compared to last. Analysts project that the credit crisis will loosen, although people with blemished credit records may continue to have trouble getting mortgage loans .Source www.wrar.com

A Look Back: Firestarter
Wilmington, NC, has become quite popular with the U.S. film industry with a long list of films and television series ranging from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to One Tree Hill. But that wasn't always so. Amy Hotz, Staff Writer of the Star News, looks back at the film that helped shape Wilmington's film industry.
Released 25 years ago, 'Firestarter' changed the fate of Wilmington

The 25th anniversary of the release of “Firestarter” hardly warrants a raised eyebrow from movie buffs. According to a USA Today film critic in 1984, the movie had “gaping plot holes” and “a parade of badly directed performances.” The film, which starred Drew Barrymore as girl who start fires with her mind, was hardly an Oscar contender.
Even here in Southeastern North Carolina where the film was shot, locals have not marked the day with so much as a banner on a city light pole.
And yet, for this region, and maybe even all of North Carolina, “Firestarter,” released May 11, 1984, was a history-making movie.
